Australia demands real charges over methanol deaths of two teenagers in Laos
The Australian government says it is "deeply frustrated" and will continue pressing Laos for "real charges with teeth" over the fatal methanol poisoning of teenagers Bianca Jones and Holly Morton-Bowles, both 19, in late 2024. The two Melbourne travellers died after drinking at Nana Backpackers hostel in Vang Vieng. Laotian authorities are preparing to lay lesser charges that families and the Australian government have condemned as "bitterly" disappointing and "unacceptable."
