Canadian wildfires send hazardous smoke into Toronto and the US Northeast
Ontario has requested federal assistance to evacuate residents from remote northern communities devastated by wildfires. Smoke from the blazes caused hazardous air quality in Toronto and across much of the northeastern United States. Canadian Forest Service researcher Jonathan Boucher highlighted the need for improved forest management and greater resilience to climate change to prevent future disasters.
