Over 800 wildfires in Canada — rust-red smoke reaches US, mass evacuations in Ontario

More than 800 wildfires are burning simultaneously across Canada, with the most severe conditions in Ontario, where authorities are preparing mass evacuations including of Indigenous communities. A thick rust-coloured smoke dome has blanketed large parts of the country and is drifting southward into the United States. Smog alerts have been issued across the northern US.
