Toyota Prius 2027 starts at $28,755 as sales tumble 42% in the first half of 2026
Toyota has unveiled the 2027 Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid, adding dual-zone climate control and a new Inked colour option, with pricing up $205 across the board to a starting price of $28,755. The minor updates come as Prius sales collapsed 42.3% in the first half of 2026, with only 19,518 units sold amid soaring fuel prices linked to the war in Iran. Analysts are sceptical the minimal changes will reverse the sales freefall.

Toyota has introduced the 2027 Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid.
Models gain dual-zone climate control and a new Inked color.
Pricing climbs $205, across the board, and starts at $28,755.
Toyota Prius sales are in freefall as Americans only snapped up 19,518 of them in the first six months of the year. That’s a decline of 42.3% and it came amid soaring gas prices due to the war in Iran.

Unfortunately, the automaker shouldn’t expect much help from the 2027 model which only ushers in the smallest of changes. In particular, there’s a new Inked paint job as well as a newly standard dual-zone climate control system.
Besides those minor tweaks, pricing climbs $205 to begin at $28,755 before a $1,295 destination fee. That increase is across the board as the LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited all become more expensive.

As a refresher, the Prius has a hybridized 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain that produces 194 hp (145 kW / 197 PS) and enables the model to return up to 55 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive variant has 196 hp (146 kW / 199 PS), but the fuel economy rating drops to 53 mpg combined.
Prius Plug-In Hybrid
If that isn’t efficient enough, there’s the Prius Plug-in Hybrid. It mirrors the standard model as the 2027 variant gains a dual-zone climate control system as well as a new Inked exterior color.
Pricing starts at $33,980, which is – unsurprisingly – $205 more than last year’s model. That increase also holds true for the XSE, Nightshade, and XSE Premium.
While the changes aren’t anything to write home about, the car has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors and a 13.6 kWh battery pack. This gives the stylish hybrid a combined output of 220 hp (164 kW / 223 PS) and an electric-only range of up to 44 miles. When the battery is dead, it simply operates as a hybrid that returns up to 51 mpg combined.
