The Via Francigena is a historic route stretching roughly 1,700 km from Canterbury to Rome, which medieval travellers completed in 70 to 90 days on foot. Archbishop Sigeric famously set out on it in 990 AD. Over the centuries it served not only as a pilgrimage road but also as a major corridor for trade and the exchange of ideas across Europe.
