Third Planet Orbiting Beta Pictoris Hid in Archive Data for Over a Decade

Astronomers have discovered a third planet, Beta Pictoris d, orbiting the star Beta Pictoris using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope (VLT). The planet is 100 times fainter than Beta Pictoris b, the first planet found in the same system, and is among the lightest exoplanets ever directly imaged from the ground. Researchers found it had been hidden in archival observations spanning more than ten years.
