Atmosphere detected on rocky habitable-zone planet LHS 1140-b for first time
Astronomers have for the first time detected an atmosphere around a rocky planet situated in the habitable zone of another star. The planet, LHS 1140-b, orbits a small dwarf star about 48 light years from Earth and is roughly 5.6 times more massive than our planet. Helium was detected in its atmosphere, marking a historic breakthrough in the search for worlds capable of supporting life.
