NTSB finds Tesla driver pressed accelerator to 100% — not autopilot — in fatal Texas crash
The NTSB has released preliminary findings confirming that Michael Butler, 44, the Tesla driver involved in a fatal crash in Texas that killed a grandmother, manually overrode the Full Self-Driving system by pressing the accelerator pedal to 100% just before impact. Butler had told police that autopilot was engaged at the time, a claim disputed by both Elon Musk and Tesla's VP of AI software Ashok Elluswamy using internal vehicle data. The preliminary report does not yet formally determine the cause of the crash.
