Windows 11's new security features are breaking classic games, GOG veterans warn

GOG's publishing technical manager Michał Obuchowski has explained that Microsoft's new Administrator Protection system in Windows 11 is causing classic games to break in "spectacular ways". The old UAC prompt is being replaced by a hidden, one-time admin account and a short-lived token gated behind Windows Hello, which is a sound security decision but changes how games request the permissions they need. Older titles that rely on the legacy elevation method are particularly affected, complicating GOG's game preservation efforts.
