One in Five World Cup Matches Played in Heat Levels Players' Union Warns Against

A Guardian analysis found that 19% of this year's World Cup matches were played at heat and humidity levels at which a football players' union says delays or postponements should be triggered. An additional 23 matches were held in cities reaching those heat levels, but inside air-conditioned stadiums. FIFA has defended its player safeguards while critics point to the growing threat the climate crisis poses to professional football.
