France and Germany hold defence talks despite FCAS programme collapse

France and Germany held a joint Defence and Security ministerial retreat to discuss deepening cooperation on nuclear deterrence, missile defence, long-range strike capabilities and space, despite growing strains in their defence partnership. The talks follow the collapse of the landmark Future Combat Air System (FCAS) fighter jet programme due to industrial rivalry. The Franco-German next-generation tank project and the multinational Eurodrone programme have also faced significant setbacks.
