EU Orders Google to Open Android to Rival AI Assistants

The European Commission has ordered Google to open Android to competing AI assistants under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), allowing users to activate rival assistants via voice commands and use them to perform in-app actions. The Commission also demands that Google share anonymised Search query data with competitors. Google has fiercely opposed the ruling, warning it bypasses hardware safety guardrails and risks a security catastrophe.
