France gives legal status to its Caribbean border with the Netherlands, 400 years after the split

France's National Assembly on Thursday approved a law giving formal legal status to the border on the Caribbean island of Saint-Martin, which has been divided between France and the Netherlands for nearly four centuries. Until now the boundary lacked any formal legal recognition. The island is considered one of the most unusual territorial divisions linked to European nations.
