Russia loses energy superpower status as sanctions finally hit its LNG exports

Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) long remained largely exempt from Western sanctions, serving as Moscow's last major source of hard currency. That has now changed, as new restrictions hit the LNG sector, with a former Gazprom employee stating that Russia's gas industry is "dying." Moscow no longer has the leverage to defend its energy superpower status and is now forced to accept terms set by others.
