New monkey species with orange lips discovered in Congo's forests

A new monkey species, scientifically named Colobus congoensis, has been discovered and classified in the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Known locally as "Likweli" or "kasaba nkoni" (meaning "branch shaker"), the 7-kilogram primate has jet-black fur draping over its shoulders like a cape and striking orange-cream lips. For decades it eluded Western biologists, existing mainly in local folklore.
