BHA to overhaul Cheltenham track layout to cut soaring false-start rate
The British Horseracing Authority announced a series of measures ahead of the 2027 Cheltenham Festival to tackle a sharp rise in false starts at jump racing's showpiece event. The false-start rate at Cheltenham climbed from 18% in 2022 to nearly 40% at the 2026 meeting, far above the 4% average across jump racing as a whole. Planned changes include modifications to the track layout and the introduction of communication devices for stewards.
