Meta sued over claims AI targeted workers on parental or sick leave for layoffs

Twenty-six former Meta employees have filed a lawsuit alleging the company used AI to identify candidates for layoffs among approximately 8,000 workers. The suit claims the system disproportionately rated employees on parental, sick or disability leave unfavourably. Meta denies the allegations, insisting that all personnel decisions were made by humans, not algorithms.
