BBC confirms Doctor Who cancelled — no new showrunner or Christmas special

The BBC has officially responded to the cancellation of Doctor Who, more than a month after the show was put out to competitive tender and ultimately axed. Contrary to earlier rumours, no Christmas special for 2026 was ever produced and no search for a new Time Lord took place. Outgoing showrunner Russell T. Davies had confirmed writing a Christmas script, but it will not be made.
