Ofcom investigates TikTok over failure to protect children online
UK online safety regulator Ofcom has launched an investigation into TikTok over concerns the platform has failed its duties under the Online Safety Act to protect children from harmful content. Ofcom found that TikTok's age inference models — which guess users' ages from their activity — are not "highly effective" as required by law. The platform could face a fine of up to £18 million or 10% of its global revenue.
