IEA: Demand for critical minerals will nearly double by 2040
According to the IEA's "Global Critical Minerals Outlook 2026" report, global demand for critical minerals such as lithium and copper will nearly double by 2040 in the baseline scenario. The surge is driven by the energy transition – growth in electric vehicles, energy storage and renewable energy sources. The report warns that current extraction and investment rates may not keep pace with rising demand.
