Scientists crack how gut bacterium toxin triggers colon cancer
Researchers have identified how a bacterial toxin linked to colorectal cancer breaches the colon's protective barrier, first binding to a receptor called claudin-4. Using this knowledge, the team designed a decoy protein that successfully blocked the toxin in mice. The discovery could lead to new therapies preventing colon inflammation and tumours.
