Beetle thought extinct in Germany returns to fight oak processionary moth

The oak-bark beetle (tęcznik liszkarz), considered extinct in Saxony-Anhalt since the 1960s, has been spotted there again. It is a natural predator of the oak processionary moth, whose stinging hairs trigger severe allergic reactions and have led to the closure of kindergartens and playgrounds across Europe, including in Poland. Scientists caution the beetle alone will not stop the infestation.
