Mercedes-AMG developing even more powerful GT 4-Door EV beyond 1,153 hp

Mercedes-AMG appears to be working on a hardcore GT 4-Door EV.

Prototype features a ventilated hood and a sizable rear wing.

Model could outgun the GT 63, which has 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft.

The redesigned Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is an impressive and ugly beast, but it seems an even more extreme variant is on the horizon. Spy photographers recently caught a lightly camouflaged prototype and it will join the tamer 55 and 63 versions.

Little is known about the model at this point, but it appears to build on the 63 variant and feature a more pronounced front splitter. More notably, the car has a ventilated hood and a rear wing. The rear spoiler also appears a tad taller than on the regular model.

That appears to be the extent of the changes, but there’s little doubt the powertrain has also been upgraded. There’s no word on specifics, but the GT 4-Door rides on the new AMG.EA platform and features a 106 kWh battery pack.

In the GT 55, the latter powers three axial flux motors that develop up to 805 hp (600 kW / 816 PS) and 1,328 lb-ft (1,798 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 2.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of up to 186 mph (299 km/h) when equipped with the optional AMG Performance Package.

The GT 63 also has three motors, but they produce a combined output of 1,153 hp (860 kW / 1,169 PS) and 1,475 lb-ft (1,998 Nm). Thanks to the extra oomph, the dash to 60 mph (96 km/h) falls to 2.3 seconds, while the top speed remains unchanged.

While the prototype’s performance figures remain a mystery, the interior should largely carryover. This means we can expect a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display. We wouldn’t be surprised if they’re joined by an AMG Performance steering wheel and AMG Performance seats, which are optional on lesser models.
