Windows zero-day HiveLegacy drops on Microsoft's record Patch Tuesday

A researcher using the pseudonym NightmareEclipse published a working exploit called HiveLegacy — targeting the Windows User Profile Service — on the same day Microsoft released a record number of security patches. The elevation-of-privilege exploit allows low-privilege accounts to make changes to administrator accounts, and multiple researchers have confirmed it works. This is NightmareEclipse's ninth such public exploit, released in protest at Microsoft's handling of vulnerability reports.
