RAF clarifies: UK bought F-35A jets for pilot conversion, not nuclear role

A Royal Air Force official stated at the Global Air & Space Chiefs' Conference in London that the UK purchased 12 conventional takeoff and landing F-35A fighters for its conversion training unit, explicitly not for a nuclear role. The official added that the RAF does intend to return to nuclear capability in support of NATO, but stressed that these are two entirely separate functions. The conference was held under Chatham House rules, so the speaker's identity was not disclosed.
