Beta Pictoris d confirmed as faintest exoplanet ever directly imaged from Earth

Two independent teams of astronomers have confirmed the existence of Beta Pictoris d, a gas giant that had been hiding in telescope images for more than a decade. It is now recognised as the faintest exoplanet ever directly imaged from Earth. The discovery came when researchers noticed a mysterious recurring spot in archival telescope data.
