Nobby Stiles died of brain disease caused by heading footballs, coroner rules

A coroner has ruled that Nobby Stiles, the tenacious England midfielder and 1966 World Cup winner, died in 2020 from a brain condition caused by repeatedly heading a football. His death was never reported by authorities to the coroner's office, which delayed the ruling. Geoff Hurst had described Stiles as the "heart and soul" of the World Cup-winning team.
