misa77 codec decompresses twice as fast as LZ4 with better compression ratios
A developer has released the experimental misa77 codec, achieving decompression speeds of 5,219 MB/s at a 42.64% compression ratio on the Silesia corpus — more than twice as fast as LZ4's 2,505 MB/s. The gains come from reducing branch instructions and optimising the format for out-of-order CPU execution. The main drawback is very slow compression at just 54.5 MB/s, compared to LZ4's 371 MB/s.
