Fractional high-Chern insulators observed in twisted rhombohedral graphene

A study published in Nature reports the observation of a rich variety of integer and fractional high-Chern insulators in a moiré system made from Bernal bilayer graphene and rhombohedral tetralayer graphene. The discovery expands understanding of exotic quantum states of matter in two-dimensional materials. The findings are relevant to condensed matter physics.
