People use fast, flat mental simulation to reason about unfamiliar games

A large-scale behavioural study published in Nature found that people approach unfamiliar games systematically and adaptively rationally, using what researchers call "fast and flat" mental simulation. The team developed a cognitive model named the "Intuitive Gamer" to describe this process. The model may inform the design of more flexible artificial intelligence systems.
