Gibraltar and Spain lift border checks under historic EU-UK treaty

From midnight on Tuesday into Wednesday, Gibraltar and Spain officially ended physical border checks after a border fence was removed. Thousands of daily commuters between the southern tip of Spain and the British territory now have freedom of movement under a landmark EU-UK treaty. Local businesses on both sides welcomed the change as a significant economic boost.
