Open USD could undercut Circle's USDC by sharing reserve income with partners

CoinShares analysts say the consortium-backed Open USD stablecoin poses the biggest threat yet to Circle's USDC. Unlike USDC, Open USD would distribute reserve income to its partners rather than keeping it for the issuer. If it launches in 2026 as expected, the model could significantly squeeze Circle's profit margins.
