Former Hungarian FM Szijjártó joins Chinese EV giant BYD as top executive

Péter Szijjártó, former Hungarian Foreign Minister and close ally of Viktor Orbán, has resigned from parliament to become a senior executive at Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD, responsible for external relations and new business development. Prime Minister Péter Magyar swiftly turned the move into a political attack, accusing Szijjártó of having "long represented foreign interests" and of lobbying for large Hungarian state subsidies for BYD before taking the job. Magyar said the only difference now is that Szijjártó will be paid directly by BYD rather than by Hungarian taxpayers.
