Four Deep-Sea Technologies Boost Earthquake and Tsunami Detection
Scientists are deploying four deep-sea technologies — drilling ships, seafloor sensors, repurposed internet cables, and other monitoring systems — to study the ocean floor, the last largely unmapped area on Earth. The goal is to improve early detection of deadly earthquakes and tsunamis. The research was published in Nature on 14 July 2026.
