Évian Conference 1938: the world refused to take in Jews fleeing Nazi Germany

In July 1938, an international conference was held in Évian, France, to decide the fate of Jews fleeing Nazi Germany and Austria. Representatives of almost every participating country refused to take in the refugees, despite widespread awareness of Nazi persecution. The ten-day conference ended in practical failure, leaving Jews with virtually no escape route.
