Jagiełło disappointed by Anna of Celje's looks, delayed their wedding
In July 1400, negotiations began for King Władysław Jagiełło to marry Anna of Celje, daughter of Count Herman II. Upon meeting his future wife, Jagiełło was reportedly disappointed by her appearance and delayed the wedding. The marriage was ultimately a political alliance meant to strengthen his dynastic position, and the birth of their daughter Jadwiga eased tensions at court.
