Venezuela's interim government and opposition begin formal talks on new elections
Venezuela's interim government has announced formal talks with the opposition aimed at "strengthening democracy" and holding new elections. The US backs the process, calling for a "democratic transition" in a country still recovering from earthquakes that killed more than 4,700 people. Contrary to expectations, Nobel laureate María Corina Machado will not lead the negotiations.
