Turkey's crackdown on opposition is systemic, not exceptional
Barış Altıntaş, co-founder of the Media and Law Studies Association, argues that arrests, prosecutions and restrictions in Turkey are not exceptional responses to current events but part of a long-running, adaptable pattern of institutional pressure. Different segments of society become targets according to shifting political priorities. Altıntaş's organisation provides pro-bono legal support to writers and journalists in Turkey.
