Seal Swims 600 km Up the Oder River to Silesia
A seal has been spotted on the Oder River near Smolne (Jemielno commune), then near Malczyce and Wały Śląskie near Brzeg Dolny in Lower Silesia — more than 600 km from the Baltic Sea. It is most likely the same individual travelling upriver, though this has not been confirmed with certainty. Only three seal species inhabit the Baltic: grey, common and ringed. Anglers filmed the animal and the footage was shared on social media.
