New York bans new hyperscale data centers for one year

New York State has become the first US state to impose a one-year moratorium on the construction of new hyperscale data centers with campuses over 50 MW. Governor Kathy Hochul introduced the ban to assess the environmental, energy grid, and community impacts of such facilities. Projects that have already received permits will proceed, but all new builds face delays until the moratorium is lifted.
