Spain and Gibraltar celebrate: land border fence falls after post-Brexit deal
A post-Brexit agreement signed in Brussels came into effect at midnight on Tuesday, eliminating border checks at the land crossing between Spain and the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The deal, the result of over four years of negotiations between the UK, Spain, Gibraltar and the EU, allows residents, tourists and thousands of Spanish workers to cross freely. The removal of the final border fence marks a historic milestone described as the last land frontier in western Europe.
