Oak processionary moth caterpillar spreading in Poland – toxic hairs can reach several km

Poland's State Forests service is warning about the oak processionary moth caterpillar, a native species whose population is surging due to climate warming. Despite its fluffy, harmless appearance, the caterpillar can cause severe skin burns and fire toxic hairs up to several kilometres. The public is urged never to touch the caterpillar or approach nests on trees.
