US House backs year-round daylight saving time — here's what happened last time
The US House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act 308–117, which would make daylight saving time permanent nationwide. The last time the US tried year-round DST was in 1973, during the energy crisis, and the experiment was reversed after public backlash, particularly over children going to school in the dark. The bill now heads to the Senate.
