Hubble reveals 4 hidden white dwarf stars near Earth

Astronomers have discovered four white dwarf stars hidden near Earth, each accompanying a brighter red dwarf companion that had concealed their presence. Hubble's ultraviolet observations revealed the long-hidden stellar remnants; one lies just 25 light-years away and took nearly three decades to confirm. The findings suggest our corner of the galaxy may contain many more undiscovered white dwarf binary systems.
