190 cyclosporiasis cases in the US since May — 145 with no foreign travel

US health authorities recorded 190 cases of cyclosporiasis — a parasitic illness causing explosive diarrhoea — from early May to mid-June. Of those, 145 patients aged 17–89 had not travelled abroad, pointing to a domestic source of contamination. The parasite Cyclospora is typically found in tropical and subtropical climates and spreads through food or water contaminated with faeces. Officials are investigating which food product is responsible for the outbreak.
