Cuba suffers fifth nationwide blackout of 2025, water shortages worsen

On 14 July 2025, Cuba suffered its fifth nationwide power grid collapse of the year, plunging the entire island into darkness. The outage also worsened an already serious shortage of drinking water in the public water supply network. The repeated blackouts point to a deepening infrastructure crisis on the island.
