Bloomberg Ordered to Pay $356,000 to Singapore Ministers in Defamation Case
A Singapore high court ordered Bloomberg News and reporter Low De Wei to jointly pay S$460,000 (US$355,734) in damages to two government ministers after an article was found to be defamatory. Each minister receives S$230,000, split between S$170,000 in general damages and S$60,000 in aggravated damages. Bloomberg's editor-in-chief John Micklethwait defended the reporting, saying the ministers imposed "an extremely strained meaning" on a solid story.
