Microsoft's Secure Boot Bypassed for 13 Years — Flaw Only Just Discovered
Security firm ESET discovered that Microsoft's Secure Boot protection has been trivially bypassable for 13 of its 14 years of existence. Researchers identified 11 defective firmware shim images — at least one dating to 2013 — that Microsoft failed to revoke despite known vulnerabilities. The flaw allows even novice hackers to fully circumvent the UEFI-embedded protection on affected devices.
