Hubble and James Webb find first of 10,000 'missing' black holes in Omega Centauri

The Hubble and James Webb space telescopes have together discovered the first of an estimated 10,000 "missing" black holes in the Omega Centauri globular cluster. The object, called oMEGACat BH-2, has a mass 4.46 times that of the Sun — too great to be a neutron star — and was identified by tracking a star orbiting an invisible, massive body. Hubble data spanned 2003 to 2023, with James Webb refining the measurements thereafter.
