Astronomers close in on Population III stars – the universe's first stars

Population III stars — the universe's first and most massive stars — remain undetected, representing a key missing link between the primordial early universe and the metal-rich cosmos we know today. Alessandra Venditti of the University of Texas at Austin and co-authors have posted a pre-print paper on arXiv outlining recent advances and new survey techniques that could help astronomers definitively locate them.
